Choosing a color scheme is very important when you are selecting colors for your color palette. After I choose a base color from the color emotion guide, it’s time to select a color scheme. How a person decides to combine colors from the color wheel is what makes a color scheme.
Below are commonly used color schemes:

Monologous and Analogous are my go-to color schemes simply because I love playing around with hues, shades, and tones of colors. These color schemes are light on the eyes and generally are muted colors. Complementary and Triad schemes are tricky to use and sometimes might seem too vibrant. And yeah, it may vary from person to person.

How do I finalize colors according to the color scheme?
Once I select a color scheme, I try to answer the below questions before finalizing colors:
1.
Are all the colors easily distinguishable from each other? For example, when you form a line chart, are you able to follow the different colored lines easily?
2. If using a colored background, are the colors visible clearly? (Click here if you need help selecting a background)
3. Does the color combination look aesthetically pleasing, and not overly jarring?
4. Do the colors align with the visualization goals?
5. Are the colors color-blind friendly? Use Coblis to check this.
If the answer to the above questions is YES, you have your colors ready!

Now it’s time to build your color palette and get started with designing your dashboard.
