Rafiqul Islam Montu received International Fellowship in Environmental Journalism

Rafiqul Islam Mantu, a coastal investigative journalist of Bangladesh, received an international fellowship in environmental journalism. He was awarded the fellowship by the Earth Journalism Network-EJN ‘Bay of Bengal Program’, a Washington-based environmental journalist organization.

International media organization Internews under the supervision of the activities are conducted in the fellowship.

The fellowship was given to create specific reports on adaptation to climate change in the Bay of Bengal. Under the fellowship, Rafiqul Islam Mantu will produce an in-depth report on the impact and adaptation of the disaster and climate change on the people of certain areas of the coastal region.

He is currently working with Risingbd , the Bangladeshi’s leading online newsportal .

Rafiqul Islam Mantu has created a different section in journalism on the coastal areas of Bangladesh. His work area is at the risk of the entire coast of the district.

Coastal District of Bangladesh:

The districts are Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, Barisal, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Barguna, Bhola, Jhalakathi, Shariatpur, Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira.

He has been making the news by bringing people’s voices to the coastal areas through a long search of these areas. Writing on various topics including coastal environment, climate change, disaster, civic service, public life. Through his work, ‘coastal journalism’ has come to be known all over the world. The new generation of journalists is becoming passionate about coastal based journalism.

Rafiqul Islam Montu has been in the journalism profession for a long time. He has worked in various newspapers including Bangladesh’s leading daily The Prothom-Alo, The Kalerkantho, The samkal, The Manabjomin, The banglanews, The Sanbad, The Bhorer Kagaz, The banglabazar Protrika.

In his journalism, hands-on from the weekly Nabo Obizan in 1984. Earlier, he practiced writing news through a wall magazine.

Rafiqul Islam Montu’s Award:

Rafiqul Islam Montu received the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity Best Reporting Award three times in recognition of his work. He has received the UNICEF-Mina Media Award three times. He has received the PIB-A2I Media Award twice. Besides Those he also received PIB-UNICEF Feature Award, journalist Monajatuddin Memorial Award for field report, FPAB Award for Demographic Reporting, BCDJC-Canadian Award for Reporting on Climate Change, Government of Bangladesh Award for Disaster Management Report and more than 20 Reporting Award he has received.

All award-winning reports are written on the coastal issue.
