“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”

- Edgar Degas

Did you know that Roman statues are made with detachable heads? Did you know that studying and pursuing art is closely linked to improved reading and math skills?

In the early ages of human existence, people could not communicate with each other.

It was very difficult, as many people had made their own languages, or even sign languages, so the other person would not know what it meant. Studies of inscriptions and other old carvings on rocks suggest that one of the most common type of language back then was sign language.

Imagine in the state of the current world, we could not communicate with each other. How difficult it would be? If you ask me, I would say that half the things in this world would not exist without words. For example, education. One of the most important things in the world.

Knowing this, we come back to the topic, how was arts created? There are so many different types of arts. How did all this start?

This article will help you understand it better!

History of Arts

There is a lot to be found in a timeline of art history. It begins over 30,000 years ago and takes us through a series of movements, styles, and periods that reflect the time during which each piece of art was created.

Art is an important glimpse into history because it is often one of the few things to survive. It can tell us stories, relate the moods and beliefs of an era, and allow us to relate to the people who came before us. Let’s explore art, from Ancient to Contemporary, and see how it influences the future and delivers the past.

These arts are one of the reasons we know so much about the past.

“Many different styles of art were created over this long period. They include those of prehistory (Paleolithic, Neolithic, the Bronze Age, etc) to the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the nomadic tribes.” Said one of the Historians in an interview. “It also includes the work found in classical civilizations like the Greeks and Celts as well as that of the early Chinese dynasties and the civilizations of the Americas.”

“Dark Ages.” The art of this period can be considered relatively “dark” as well. Some depicted rather ridiculous or otherwise brutal scenes while others were focused on formalized religion. Yet, the majority are not what we would call cheery.

Some of the types of arts are:

- Painting — two-dimensional art

- Literature — art of written word

- Installation — Immersive art form

- Sculpture — three-dimensional art

- Music — art of organized sounds

- Cinema — art of moving pictures

- Architecture — Art of building design

- Theatre — art of live performance

- Photography — art of taking pictures

These are the 8 main types of arts. Of course, there are many more, but these are the main.

These different types of arts come under the main forms. They are:

- Visual Arts

- Literary Arts

- Performing Arts

- Theatrical arts

Are you able to classify the different types of arts under these forms?

In conclusion, art is a creative way of spreading a message or meaning! As the famous artist, Pablo Picasso says, “Art is the lie that enables us to realize the truth.”

I hope this article helped you understand art better! Until next time,

Adios!
