To everything that an Indian woman has become and is becoming.

In India, the fate of a child is predetermined and sealed pretty much very early in his or her life. But more so, if it is a girl child. Even if a woman is earning her living, there are apparently some things only a man can do. Or so they said.

But, flip through the pages of history and you’ll find women constantly and unapologetically breaking every stereotype that has ever been established. From Kalpana Chawla to Falguni Nayar, women have been breaking stereotypes in every field.

An Indian woman, lately, has been at par with tradition and modernity. She is making phenomenal transitions, shedding her conservative avatar and stepping into the shoes of a bread-earner, yet staying close to her roots.

#1. She’s ambitious.

via

An ambitious woman always has her heart set on something. She’s always chasing a goal (or several!) and striving to be a better version of herself, and she’ll usually stop at nothing to achieve what she’s set out to do. And that is brave. Being able to set priorities, looking up to them, and not settling in before achieving them.

#2. She loves being herself in relationships.

via

Being independent and herself, is what the new woman is these days. Whether it is work or relationships, she believes in equality and does not shy away from taking control. Equality does not come from being monetarily stable, but also from the fact that she is a part of decision making and there is constructive communication in the relationship.

#3. She loves her culture but is not bound by it.

via

Today’s woman is progressive in thinking but still, has a deep-rooted respect for the Indian culture and traditions. Whether it is about wearing a saree or fasting on karwa chauth, she loves following the traditions yet is not resolute while she follows conventions. She holds customs close to her heart but has the flexibility to adapt according to the situation.

#4. She has a voice.

via

It is vital that women’s voices are heard, they can’t — and shouldn’t — be silenced. If women aren’t given a voice how can we ever expect to fight the war for equality?

And that is exactly why, the modern woman, knows how to stand up and speak for herself. She won’t stay silent and knows how to raise her voice so that it is heard.

#5. She wears what she likes.

via

Stepping out of their comfort zone, women today aren’t afraid to experiment with their looks. Also, they’re far from the ideologies of fitting into culture generalizations. They wear what she thinks he should, what she feels confident in, and what makes her feel beautiful than giving in to what people think she should wear.

#6. She isn’t defined by gender roles.

via

Women have always been perceived as the weaker of the two sexes. Anything that requires a “pair of balls” is immediately considered out of a woman’s reach. They are always seen as more inclined towards household work, but today, a woman is coming out of the weak shell. She’s taking up job roles that are challenging and unconventional.

#7. She is living life on her own terms.

via

Marriage or no marriage, kids or no kids- it’s totally her choice. Marriage and motherhood are no more milestones for her to achieve. And there have been women who are thriving in life without being held back by the idea of marriage or motherhood. Also, there are women who choose to be single mothers, proving that women don’t need men to be complete.

#8. She is ready to challenge conventions.

via

The confident woman is ready to think differently and challenge conventions. She is a leader and not a follower. This is the woman who would love to try out a saree with a pair of jeans or take up a job that is quintessentially a part of the “male arena”. This is the woman who does not hesitate to voice out her opinion at home or at her workplace.

#9. She is not held back by stereotypes.

via

Conventionally, women are associated with makeup and the color ‘pink’. But the modern woman is experimental. She’s bold and that makes her beautiful. Wearing makeup, or not wearing it at all, is totally her choice. Also, if she wears makeup, she’s flashingly unapologetic about it.

#10. She’s far from the abla naari image.

via

Women have always been perceived as the weaker one amongst the two sexes. But women in India today, have grown past the image of being the damsel in distress or an abla naari. They’re now strong, fierce, and unstoppable. There is literally nothing that women wish they could do, and can’t.

More power to you ladies!
