Winter clothing donation drive for refugees in Maryland

Are you sickened by the language surrounding refugees in today’s media and politics? Same. Would you like to help make refugees welcome but feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of the crisis and don’t know where to begin? I’ve been there.

Let’s start at home. As the temperatures drop, local resettlement centers need our help collecting winter clothes for their clients.

I’ve received the following list of desired items from the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Silver Spring and Baltimore offices.

  • Winter Gloves, Hats, and Scarves
  • Boots/close toed shoes
  • Warm Winter Coats
  • Sweaters
  • Pants

Additionally, the IRC accepts the following items for donation on a regular basis: SmarTrip Cards, diapers, kitchen supplies, bedding, umbrellas, and giftcards to Walmart & Target.

The hardships faced by refugees are far from over upon resettlement so please consider helping the IRC make #RefugeesWelcome and countering the all too common toxic anti-refugee and anti-immigrant rhetoric we’re hearing. If you would like to give but are unable to drop off of the donations, you can contact me at and I will happily arrange to meet you to collect the items before Sunday, October 30th.

Thank you.
