Grateful for the people who put up with me

First off I want to make it clear to the internet that I actually am pretty awesome. I can cook, from memory, a handful of delicious recipes. I know a thing or two about a thing or two. My personal hygiene is top notch.

But I’m kind of a grump. Okay I’m totally a grump, and I’m grateful that people put up with me.

I think a lot of my grumpiness has to do with being an introvert. It’s often the case that I just don’t feel like talking to anyone. It’s nothing personal — I just want to be alone to recharge. When I’m in this state and I’m interrupted, especially for small talk, it’s frustrating.

I recently read a book called What Got You Here Won’t Get You There. Essentially it’s a self-help guide for capable people who probably have a personality flaw that’s doing them more damage than good. That includes almost everyone successful, by the way. The main goal of the book is to help people identify and overcome these habits so they can make the next big leap in whatever they’re planning to do with their life.

I may have a few of these habits, and grumpiness is definitely one of them. So to everyone who sometimes (often) has had to put up with my grumpy behaviour, or any passive-aggressive result of my frustration, I’m sorry. I’m grateful for your patience. I’m working hard to make it better.
