Wow, I just tried to listen to his music after a 12 year respite from hearing his music blare throughout the dorm building I lived in. Still find it annoyingly precocious and earnest. Like Billy Bragg, but without the backdrop of Thatcherian England; instead exploring the tender emotional landscape of a man whose penchant for hair product is nearly confrontational. I imagine a bunch of guys named things like Jared and Tyler listen to this while thinking about the many transgressions life has dealt them.
