Senior Design Project: Post 7
Well the fashion show is a month from today. I am so excited, nervous, and sleepy. Anyways, I've (almost) completed 6 of my pieces! Yesterday I turned in my fourth look- the butterfly dress.
I love this dress. I tried to make the lines feminine and butterfly-like. The color is a dark rose, and is the pop of bright color in my collection. The fabric is a fantastic silky solid that is super light and flowy.
I draped the bodice and created a muslin to fit to my model. Once I made the proper adjustments, I draped the skirt. In my mind’s eye I had first imagined the dress with a fully gathered skirt. However, I realized that the curved waist seam would make that almost impossible. So to preserve the grain I ended up draping a full circle skirt instead. Thankfully I still was able to create a piece with tons of flow. I want my model to float down the runway, and the circle skirt turned out to be just right. The garment is fully lined and the bodice has boning at the side seams. I haven’t hemmed it yet, but am planning on keeping it pretty long, and finishing the hem with a cute scallop stitch for a little bit of whimsy.

Next up? The cocktail dress, and then the wedding dress. I've put off the jacket from the first look for now, and might not have time to make it for the runway show. But, I want to really concentrate on my last two looks. Here we go again!

PS: Here’s the update on the finished first look. Sorry for the bad picture! I’m happy with how it came out, and received good feedback, especially on the pleat detail at the shoulder and the general drape of the top. The skirt is unfinished in the picture, but is finished in real life (promise).
