letting go of goals to be happier

Let me explain.

If you know me, you know I can be a bit on the Type-A side- I have calmed down a lot, but I still have it in me. With my birthday coming up I have been reflecting alot about how the past few years have gone and how I want the rest to go.

I used to have so many goals. Goals for every aspect of my life. Without these parameters, my life felt directionless. 3 planners and keeping accountable. I had to have one for everything: personal, work, school, the week, the day. Checklist after checklist. Say no to anything that doesnt fit and keep the head down..

Lately what I have noticed is that many things I have achieved havent necessarily resulted in happiness themselves. Not to mention .. when things do not go as planned? That is a whole other issue of confusion and questioning self worth. Accomplishments do not equal happiness, I promise you. Also, some of my happiest moments have come from the unplanned and the unknown.

My 17 year old self would be so proud. (Or perhaps think I am full of shit, either or).

I am starting to see you cannot out-plan life.. you cannot trick it. Your mind is not smarter than your feelings, your vibes, and things that happen around you. A few months ago I started to let go of hardpress goals and to experiment with being open more and saying yes more. What happened you ask? I started working more, being with my friends more, and overall feeling less emotional weight as I move about my day. I even asked a friend to check if I was becoming lazy or directionless but in reality — you can still stay driven while having intentions vs trying to force life to happen.

We can move in a direction, along a path that we feel at the time makes us happy. One foot in front of the other. Pick things up along the way that help you in your journey, and let things go that no longer serve you.

It takes time, but I can vouch that I am alot happier using intentions versus forced energy and ideals.

I am choosing to focus on a general direction, and enjoying the view along the way.

The journey is the adventure.
