Tableau Tutorial — How to create a Cumulative Curve Chart

Cumulative Curve Charts are a great way of showing how unequal a distribution is¹.
The dataset being used below is the Superstore Dataset available on Tableau Community.
Steps to create a Cumulative Curve Chart —
- Drag a Date field to the Column shelf and select Month
- Drag two numerical fields to the rows shelf
- Change the Quick Table Calculation for both numerical fields from Sum to Running Total
- Select Dual Axis and Synchronize the axes
- Add Labels to the chart and to ‘Marks to Label’ to ‘Most Recent’
