Days 1 & 2

This week marks an exciting and much anticipated shift in my career.

For the past four years I’ve been a Graphic Designer for marketing companies, agencies and freelance clients. I’ve brainstormed, styled, photographed and designed entire marketing campaigns, created illustrations for infographics and icons, designed and implemented landing page for Marketo, and spear-headed a UX solution that took the better part of a month to map out, among other projects.

As of this week, however, I’m adding web development to my list of skills, and I cannot wait to jump in and take off. I’m enrolled in a Web Development Career Path course at The Iron Yard, which will last for twelve weeks and cover both front-end and back-end languages.

While I have some experience with HTML and CSS, diving into Javascript, Java and beyond is going to elevate my skill set to a higher level, giving me the opportunity to not only create more intuitive mockups, but code projects from start to finish as well as troubleshoot them.

Already, we have covered basic HTML, which has been a great refresher for me and re-ignited my coding passion. So here’s to starting something new, learning a lot, and making websites about “Star vs. the Forces of Evil” thanks to Assistant Instructor Devon Moubry!
