What is Golden Gate Park?

Golden Gate Park is a public space in San Francisco that separates the Richmond and Sunset districts. Golden Gate Park is 1,017 acres of public park space and was created as San Francisco’s version of Central Park in New York City. The idea for a similar park to Central Park was first brought up in the 1860s but it wasn’t until about 1875 that Golden Gate Park truly became a park. The plan and developments for creating Golden Gate Park were overseen by John McLaren and he served as the superintendent for 56 years.

Today, Golden Gate Park has become one of the most visited parks in the United States. Golden Gate Park has something for everyone. If you don’t mind spending money, you can visit the art museum, science museum, conservatory of flowers or botanical gardens.
