Hello: An introduction to, well, me.

Two old friends, circa 2004.

Hello beautiful people who are choosing to read this blog,

Firstly, thank you ❤

I have been thinking a lot about this personal blog space since I wrote my first piece a couple of months ago. I have several of my next blogs drafted, but I have been thinking that if I am going to take this seriously, it might help to put a little bit out there about who I am, what I like and why I’m doing this. Also plenty of photos, of course.

I enjoy long walks on the beach ❤

To be honest, actually, this space is really for me. I have found that in the last 15 months, I have traveled and experienced more than I ever have in my life to date. I have lived in 3 continents, traveled to many countries and cities within them (including some of the world’s most “dangerous” places), spoken at the United Nations in New York, am working my dream job at UNICEF, and am about to complete my MA International Law and Human Rights from the United Nations University for Peace.. (have hyperlinked it because it was so much fun, you should all check it out).

Grateful for the beautiful friends I made at UPEACE. This is at our graduation, June, 2017.

This last two years especially have been amazing, but I feel like I have constantly been on the go and that I haven’t made enough time to sit down and reflect on what I’ve been up to, where I’ve been or the many things that I feel are achievements for me. My photos get lost in a million different folders and I find that I am always looking forward (what I’m going to do next) or investing energy and brain space on what others are doing (social media…) rather than just focusing on my own life, and the many things in it that I should be more grateful for and appreciative of.

For example: mates in Manuel Antonio national park, Costa Rica. NB: leave the park as late as you can and you’ll see all these guys getting more active as the sun sets and the day cools down. ©Ronny Aguilar/2017

I have created this space because I really want somewhere that I can document what I’ve been doing, what I think, where I’ve been and how those things have effected me. I want to be able to keep track of my own life and the wonders in it.

On top of that though, I also want to create a space where we can share ideas and thoughts (including some of my uni papers which are on topics I love and find fascinating). Perhaps some of the things on here can help others, or invoke insight or meaningful conversations.

I am at a point right now where I feel like so many things I have dreamt of and worked for are eventuating, and I feel so humbled for that. Who would of thought these things actually come true, like they do in the self-development books I read or movies I watch?

I want to have a reminder of those things that I’ve achieved and done, whether they are big or small, and whether they matter to others or not. Sometimes the most beautiful things in life are the smallest and simplest.

Something beautiful today: the playful footprints of a small child and a dog sunk into someone else’s hard days work. They were clearly having too much fun to care about the wet cement ❤ 26.10.2017

I want to make sure I remember all of these things, before they get lost in time, or in the constant comparison we are subtly bombarded with through our use of social media.

By doing this, I hope I can encourage others to reflect on their lives and their achievements also. Everyone does amazing things every day. Everyone has the opportunity to help others. What you do matters. Your words matter. Your thoughts and feelings matter.

Having your say is important and making yourself feel proud is really critical to appreciating your own life. Of course, I don’t mean this in a competitive way. Simply in the sense that we should be allowed to feel proud of what we’ve achieved — rather than let the things that make us feel happy get dissolved in the shadow of everyone else’s “achievements” or lives.

We are all beautiful in our own way, and the things that are special to each of us should be cherished as such.

It is up to each of us individually to connect within ourselves and tell ourselves that we’re amazing. That we are worthy. That we are enough.

Your worth and self-love really only comes from you. So this blog, for me, is also a way for me to add to my self-love. Reflecting on what is, and appreciating what has been.

I hope this is a way for anyone reading this to be encouraged to do the same, or some form of the same.

Never forget how amazing you are, and how much potential you have. There is enough goodness for everybody. We all deserve a life full of love and happiness. I hope you are proud of your achievements.

Always appreciate the good and the bad, and know that it all happens for a reason.

This is a piece of my story and I hope you like it as much as I do ❤

Signing out for now,

Sarah ❤
