This Is What Happened When People Wanted My Art

I was in the midst of a phase when I was painting only birds. I had completed a robin, and truly loved it. My husband’s friend saw it and asked me to make two paintings of birds for him, my choice of subject. I was excited at first, as I came to drawing and painting later in life. It was nice to have work appreciated by someone other than family. As the pieces progressed, however, I became quite attached to them. It was hard to give them away. My consolation was that he loved them. They hang in his office at home to this day. I still struggle with parting with my art. I think it’s because I’m not prolific, and so if something works and I love it, I don’t like to let it go. It’s also a record of my progress. I love your work btw. ☺
