YOUR DREAMS ARE WAITING FOR YOU

Dreams are the fuel for life. You may argue that but hear me out. When a person has a big dream that they believe in, they can run through walls. If they believe in it and actively work towards their goals, they have a full tank in this journey called life.

Now look at the people with no dreams, aspirations, or goals. They are not moving. They may be happy, but they are stationary. It’s okay to be happy where you are but this makes it easier to get complacent and bored. It’s more common that people with no dreams, and no goals, feel empty and are not able to enjoy the fullness of all life has to offer. Since these people are not going anywhere, they’re tank is empty.

Most of us spent too much of our time doing other things in life, and now think that it’s too late to go after our dreams.

IT’S NEVER TOO LATE

Growing up it seems to be embedded into our brains that if you are to accomplish anything big you must start at a young age. You must decide who you are and what you want to be in elementary school. Well I don’t know about everyone else, but I was more worried about playing, friends, and Star Wars. I also did not know what all was out there or how it would appeal to me.

On top of all that if you did know what you wanted to do at a young age, adults had the final say. I wanted to fight like Jean-Claude Van Damme, but I was told little girls don’t fight. Instead, I was enrolled in ballet. In High school I wanted to join the wrestling team but again that is not for girls, and I was not permitted to sign up.

At 23, I watched MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fights and remember thinking “I should have been an MMA fighter but now it’s too late. I would not have enough training”

Now it’s true that the younger you are in any field the easier things are and usualy, the further you can go. This should not dictate whether you do it or not.

In my 30s I started training MMA despite the previous thoughts in my younger years. Here I met a woman in her late 50s who was in her training camp for her first MMA fight. If that’s not inspiration for the rest of us I do not know what is.

I heard a story of a woman who after her children had moved out and her husband had passed away, she had no one to take care of and went back to school. She had always wanted to get her law degree and thought that now was as good of time as any. She went to law school at the age of 90. It’s never too late.

The one person who can tell you that you are not capable enough to do something is the person who looks back at you in the mirror. The good news is you have control over them. Don’t miss out on the joys of life because of FEAR- False Evidence Appearing Real.

Everywhere we are overwhelmed with stories of young athletes or musicians starting right out of diapers. Writers publishing their first novel at 12. That is their path not yours not mine. You have to look further and there’re countless stories of middle-aged people accomplishing amazing dreams also.

DREAMS DON’T DIE, THEY ONLY SLEEP

When you have a dream of something you want to do it never goes away or dies. It only lays dormant under years of responsibilities and other things. Sometimes our dreams modify and evolve as we grow older. Sometimes they change. But they are always there. All you need to do is dig.

Look inside and you can find it. If your dream does not come to the top of your head right away try these questions:

What are you passionate about?

What have you always wanted to do?

What did you used to do that you would like to pick back up?

What interests you?

What seems like fun?

What do you feel drawn to watch? Read about? Talk about?

What would 10-year-old you tell you to do?

What would 90-year-old you tell you that you should have done?

These should help find what you are looking for or at least get you started thinking. You can do anything you put your mind too. You may not become the best or the most famous, but you will sure have an adventure and fun along the way.

I don’t know about the rest of the world, but I choose to live without the “Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda.”

Now go out there and catch your dreams.

“If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it done.”-Bruce Lee
