It’s a tough situation. I don’t think you can categorically say that some members of your staff weren’t at least “inspired” by some of these videos — which, in itself, is totally fine. The Internet is a huge place and ideas come and go and get done and redone and we all get ideas from different sources. The one thing I think you *can* do however, is ask your staff to be honest about where their ideas are coming from. If it was inspired by an existing video from an independent creator, add a shoutout in the description. A lot of people would love to have the audience that Buzzfeed has and you could be helping people discover their work. You have a giant platform and it would go a long way toward building some goodwill.
