Credibility of Internet Material
In reading the article Criteria to Evaluate the Credibility of WWW Resources, many things stood out to me on the credibility of online resources. Throughout the article many points and tips were discussed on how to know when an online article is credible and useable with research. Three points that really stood out to me within this article were noting if the author is biased, does the information include a complete works cited page and evidence that the author has authority with the information they are proving.
Noting if an author is or is not biased in what they are writing was mentioned as a key part in knowing if the article is credible. When their are clues noting that an author is or is not biased it shines a light on the topic being discussed whether it be in a biased or non biased opinion.
Is a full works cited page included on the website is also another important tip in deciding if the article is a credible online resource. When searching for articles and in looking at the works cited page the big question being asked would be are the sources used to write this article credible and authoritative sources as well. If their is no credible sources shown on a works cited then where has the author gotten he information, and what would the authors relationship be to said topic.
My third point that stood put to me was knowing if their was evidence on the author and knowing if they have any authority in the field they are writing about. Knowing the qualifications about the author and the credentials and background of their writing and research. I knowing many of these things it can help in determining whether or not the article is scholarly and credible.
