Getting started with Raspberry Pi — Install Raspian on your Raspberry Pi using Windows

Parts needed

- Raspberry Pi 3 model B+
-
Micro SD card
-
SD card adapter
-
Power supply for your Raspberry Pi

MicroSD and SD adapter

  1. Insert your microSD card into your adapter
  2. Insert the adapter into the SD card slot on your laptop
The micro SD card used for this tutorial is a SanDisk Edge 16GB

Format your SD card

  1. When you have inserted the SD adapter you will see boot(F:) under This PC and next to your C and D-drive
  2. Right click on boot(F:) and select Format
  3. Unselect Quick Format and then click Start
Make sure you are formatting only the SD card boot(F:) as everything will be wiped out from the drive!

Download Raspian

Download Raspian here.

  1. Click on Raspian.
  2. For this tutorial we will download Raspian Buster with desktop and recommended software. Choose Download ZIP.

3. Go to Downloads on your laptop. Right click the folder and select Extract All.
4. After the files are extracted a file folder will be created containing the image.

Flash the image to your SD card

Download balenaEtcher here.

  1. Go to Downloads and select the file folder that you extracted
  2. Select the image file
  3. Select drive (make sure it is the same as the SD card) and then Flash!

Boot your Raspberry Pi

Connect your power supply to your Raspberry Pi. The green light will start blinking and will do this until the booting is finished. When the green light is turned off you are done booting your Raspberry Pi.

Congratulations!

You have now installed Raspian and booted your Raspberry Pi.
