Come Away With You

Come …..

Come away with you

Where the jetties don’t go

And the hills don’t climb

And the cars don’t drive

Come and look at your feet

Haven’t they walked miles?

Will they not walk more?

The nails shorn of any polish

The anklets tinkling by

Come and look at your eyes

They look muted

They burn with fire

They see what only you can

And dream when cicadas wail

Come pour yourself a drink

It’s just before noon on a Tuesday

Take out your own Sunday best

Wear it and walk bare footed

It’s ok to while away what is yours

Come sit alone by the pier

Where there are people

Where still there is solitude

Hear your own voice

And tell it to hush

Come let’s buy some trinkets

And not because you need it

But because you want it

Why must you always weigh

The needs from wants

Come pack a box of food

Cook it yourself

For just you

Call a friend if you must

Or go alone if they can’t go

Come and choose white sheers

Drape them

On your window in sunny noons

Let the sunlight in

Let these sheers fade

Come and ask questions

Why some stay and some go

Why some give and some take

Brew some tea and keep your own company

Make some food and call your friends

Come and break bread with me

And talk to me

And tell me what aches you

I shall soon take a walk

And tell you what I see

Come ….
