LipStick Fairytale

I picked two yesterday of cognac and cherry hues
The colour in the heart beckons
I can’t decide which one I like
I work up a smile …
Choose one
And apply my lipstick

They have kissed away tears
And been kissed in return
And been bitten by my own nervous teeth
But they loved kissing most
Tiny ten tender toes and blowing rasp berries
On tender soles of baby feet

The day begins with a hopeful quiet
The chaos of existence pulls me in
There are quick kisses to bid adieu
And I whisper a prayer for my universe
Of man and child
Now back to my lipstick

I can’t decide what to wear on my lips today
There is a smile for sure and it needs a shade
I choose some amber to remind me of hope
And as the day wears me off I see my lipstick fade

Life begets life
Truths of life bear down
And I give away each day a portion
Of my slice of sky
For a cold clinical ceiling of this Other Land

And now it is raining
With the night taking over
And the sun is warming another home
I head back to my universe
To hear her squeals
And her trilling welcome voice

I see my tired face in the elevator mirror
Is that really me I ask
One more fine line here
The eyes hood more
I remember the lipstick in the bag

Tis’ amber with a hint of flame
I fish it out and drape rather hastily
Just to plant coloured kisses
On innocent smiling cheeks

Yes the world is tough
And there are no guarantees
But all we own are just ourselves
My dear daughter
We will have our stars to pick
Smile a lot every time and one day you too must apply your lipstick
