I am interested in replying to this from an evolutionary point of view. First off, the overlap between the bell curves he showed was considerable, making me wonder why he is focusing on the difference between the means. Evolutionary mismatch: Our lifestyles have changed so much in the last century or more there’s no way evolution could keep up. I’m talking about diabetes, heart disease. Same with gender roles and biology. How much the differences between men and women really are, and whether they are biological or cultural, is somewhat irrelevant. What’s relevant is whether they are adaptive or not. You (and the rest of us here) would conclude that the kind of gendered behavior the original writer prefers is less and less adaptive. One of the points the original letter writer brought up as a difference between conservatives and liberals: resistance to change. Change is happening and it’s unavoidable. People who don’t like change are less “fit” than people who adapt to change. In other words, biologically or not, conservative approaches are being left behind. And this is the way evolution works. This is why it is so absolutely vital to teach evolution in schools. Sigh.
