I don’t have any money to spare, sir, but I do have these cookies I’ve just made.

A few weeks ago I had a similar encounter. My family was driving to New Orleans and were stopped at a light where a panhandler was sitting on the curb holding a sign saying “Hungry”. I didn’t have any cash but I did have a bag of cookies I’d made. I rolled down my window and asked if he would like some cookies. The man looked up and said yes and grinned as we gave him the bag of cookies. The light turned green and we had to drive on. I don’t know if the cookies helped much, and they weren’t exactly the most nutritious food option, but they were all I had at the moment and they seemed to make the man happy.
