I wasn’t discussing the whole store, nor was I expecting the customer service person to have any effect on what they stock. The point still remains that that phrase was a kind of dumb one for that particular customer service representative to use when speaking to a non white family. It is perfectly likely that she had no intention of implying that non white people are not American, but she still did, and the non white child that was a part of the conversation picked up on that. The lady shouldn’t be fired for it. The store doesn’t need to stock more non-white dolls over it. But it was still a stupid statement, especially considering her audience. It wasn’t intentionally malicious, but it was thoughtless.
