I’m an artist. I usually paint the couple a picture. I stick mostly to landscapes on a smallish canvas as I don’t want to stick them with some huge abstract monstrosity they may hate (most people don’t find landscapes objectionable but if it’s small and they hate it they can stick it in a closet somewhere). I try to personalize it in some way (for example when my friends in the navy got married I painted a seascape). It helps that if I’m going to a couple’s wedding I’m usually close friends with them and they’ve generally asked me to paint something for them before, so I know that they seem to like my paintings. They also know that between medical bills and college I don’t have much money at the moment, so I hope they appreciate the gesture. If I can afford it I try to give some cash in the card.
