When my wife was in high school she visited the guidance counselor.

Sorry to jump in here, but the sad thing is that that is *still* happening. I am young and graduated high school in 2011 at the top of my class with a 4.5 GPA and a full tuition scholarship to college to study chemical engineering and was still told by my guidance counselor that really I would be more suited to being a librarian, a secretary or maybe a tour guide. There is nothing wrong with being any of those things but I couldn’t help but be shocked by her dismissiveness of my aspirations to enter a non traditionally feminine field. Ugh. I did not like that lady.
