Diet for TMD
For many people, if you suffer from TMD, the first thing that you’ll probably say is that your jaw hurts and feels lethargic after you eat, or maybe your jaw makes noises when you eat. Having joint and muscle disorders in the chewing muscles and joints is definitely something that people might start to notice. Now TMJ is the name of the joint, while TMD is the name of the disorder. The location of TMJ is actually on each side of your head in front of where your ears are. You can feel this, and this is where the jaw connects to the skull. Cartilage separates this so that it slides, and you move these when you chew food, talk, and swallow, so they’re used quite a bit.
However, with TMJ, you might start to feel jaw discomfort and even a tenderness and pain when you open and close your mouth. It might be uncomfortable to chew as well, and you might notice some popping and grating sounds when you move it. TMJ also causes headaches, earaches, pain in the face and neck, back pain, and even shoulder pain. Try for softer food that don’t require you to open your mouth so large, since it’ll give the jaw a chance to rest.
You should work to put yourself on a soft diet. Don’t make it liquid though. Instead, make it foods such as veggies that are cooked, ground meats, soft fruits, and eggs. You should try to avoid biting into apples, corn on the cob, and large pieces of lettuce on your salad. You should avoid large pieces of meat, snacks you got to chew, and don’t chew ice.
If you chew gum, stop doing so immediately. That will just make it hurt.
If you do have bigger pieces of foods, start to cut them down into smaller pieces. Eat slower, because this will put less stress on your muscles and joints. Many of us eat way too fast, so you should make sure that you don’t do that.
You should also avoid a few foods as well, since it will crave the muscles excitability and it can also cause more irritability. NutraSweet, alcohol, nicotine, excessive dairy and salt, sugar, caffeine, and chocolate can do all of these. You should also try to avoid too many foods that will stimulate this, such as the crunchy ones.
Now, you should work to have fresh fruits and veggies, greens, whole grains, various tender meats, complex carbs, herbal teas, almond and soy milk, Greek yogurt, healthy smoothies, and various other soft types of foods. Try to have a healthier lifestyle as well.

However, if eating gets too much for you, there are a few things that you can do to stimulate your jaw in a fitting way without too much stress.
