I truly enjoy Google’s interface but my main issue is with the privacy and data mining for advertising aspects.. I still shudder inside when I’ve been discussing something with a friend on one of my apps or Gmail — say, if she knows a good Arabic teacher in the city — and then seeing a targeted advertisement crop up on my Gmail for free Arabic courses in Dubai. It’s a bit sickening, although I fear it will be less and less so the more we’re exposed to it. I just wrote a piece for Nested (disclaimer, I work there) discussing some of these issues, namely the value our words. I ask a question at the end and would very much like to see people’s responses to gauge some opinions on the matter.
