Mount S3 bucket in linux using RIOFS alternative to S3FS

One of our client had requirement to mount the S3 bucket to ec2 linux box for some testing. So, at first I have installed S3FS in my linux box. The installation was very straight forward. It took only 2–3 minutes to configure. The worst part is about to come. I have mounted the S3 bucket successfully.

Once I tried to fetch files it took long time. Sub folder size is only 20M and speed of fetching the files is very slow. It was stuck.

After doing some googling I found RIOFS. After installation the result was like WOW. RIOFS is really a best alternative to S3FS Here is the installation steps for Centos:

#sudo yum groupinstall “Development Tools”
#sudo yum install glib2-devel fuse-devel libevent-devel libxml2-devel openssl-devel
#tar -xzf libevent-2.0.21-stable.tar.gz
#cd libevent-2.0.21-stable
#./configure && make
#sudo make install
#sudo echo “/usr/local/lib/” > /etc/
#sudo ldconfig
#export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
#cd ..

Then download the RIOFS from below link:

#cd riofs-master
#sudo make install
#export AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID=<Access key>
#export AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY=<Secret key>
#riofs <bucket-name> <folder-name>

If you want umount the bucket use below command

umount <foldername>

If it gives error like device is busy then fire below command

fuser -k <foldername> and then

umount <foldername>

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
