Audacious, Fair & Grounded

Culture eats strategy for breakfast

A statement that has been ringing in my head for quiet sometime. As much as culture of an organization needs to be carefully crafted and protected, I feel like the DNA of the organization comes from the core values of the co-founders and initial leadership.

And values are NOT singular data points, they are spextrum of behaviours with multiple Maximas. If there are patterns I see across those multiple maximums, then there are EXACTLY three values I would pick for my startup. Three values that made us, three values we are thriving on!

Audacious

Audacity is not a simple and singular meaning word as it looks like. Being audacious in a startup has multiple layers.

Being Audacious is

  1. Asking questions and Questioning assumptions
  2. Taking change as the default way
  3. Thinking from first principles
  4. Making moves that may seem counter-intutive
  5. Taking bets on people of what they can become

Fair

Fairness is more than weighing equal weights in both courts. Fairness is self-questioning tool, Fairness is difficult rope to balance.

You cannot be FAIR, unless you are

1. Feedback driven

2. Iterative

3. Accommodative

4. Driven by principles (which are iterative)

5. Failing , reworking and persevering to become the best version of who you are and what your decisions are

6. You are thinking from the other end as much as from your own end

Grounded

And this one has no layers, just as it should be. Groundedness means nothing more, nothing less than ACTUALLY being Grounded.

You are grounded, when you are

  1. Close to reality
  2. Not riding on your own success
  3. Giving importance to values over everything else

To me these three values have driven every single decision at XAMCHECK. From being absolutely fair to employees, vendors and customers alike, to taking audacious moves products, people and places, to never EVER losing sight from ground reality.
