Hi Emma, I’ve been reading your articles for a while and always found them really insightful.

Andrea! Hello. I agree that it could’ve been said better, but I didn’t get the feeling that she was saying at the first mention of a distaste for body hair she would toss the guy on the sidewalk. She said that if someone was “very vocal” she would assume that they’re an ass. This makes sense to me. If a shaved woman is a preference you let that be known. If it’s a requirement you’re VERY VOCAL. In response to your feelings regarding her desire to become more and more Yeti-like the more she reads/hears about how disgusting hairy women are, I don’t think it’s as deep as hair=protection against rape. You must be thinking only of date rape as one would have to have some seriously obvious body hair to thwart a street rapist.

I believe it’s simple rebellion. I can totally relate. There are so many beautiful women. Some of them enjoy the priviledges their beauty affords them without question. Others want to be valued for more than their looks. In some cases the options are limited and growin’ out the ol’ leg hair seems like the right thing to do.
