The Uncropped Share Fallacy
Simone Stolzoff

I have a weird relationship with social media. When I do post, I don’t offer much explanation behind a picture and I never post my true thoughts or beliefs about certain topics/affairs. I tell myself that I prefer to be private, but I think I’m actually just hiding.

I’d say this has more to do with insecurity of what others think of me than with an authentic social media identity, but I guess that plays a part, too.

I love your point about feeling “off brand”. We are constantly editing. You are not alone in feeling like you don’t know how much good or bad stuff balance to share with the world, or even your immediate circle online. Thanks for writing and making me ponder this.
