OH JOURNAL ENTRIES HOW I LOVE THEE!!!

Tuesday November 10, 2015

In class today we started it off with a good ole handy dandy quiz 9, From that we started to go into class discussion. We touched basis on the 5 aspects of emotional intelligence which includes: self-awareness, self-regulations, motivation, empathy, and social skill. We discussed the “Education of Cyrus” and the different events that happened within book four….

We touched basis on “How can a leader deal with Envy?

-Leaders own envy

-Envy of the leader (Object of Envy)

-Envy among the followers

Also learned some new words/words we already knew:

  1. Phthonos-Self Mastering
  2. Sophrosune-Self Control
  3. Eros-Love
  4. proates- Gentle

Cyrus was one of those leaders who wanted people to know his accomplishments and he had many positive things he accomplished as a leader by team building and they were:

  • Asking cyaxeres to build the army
  • Persian contindent bringing more and more people in
  • Building the army by bringing in Persian commoners and suggested to just give weapons
  • Brings in the Armenians
  • Brings in the Cardinians
  • Relies on mede Artanates and he goes out to build followers for Cyrus

Here is a sample CEO job listing. What challenges would such a leader face? Which of these challenges would you find easiest to overcome and which most difficult? Why? Do you ever expect to become the CEO of a company? Why or why not?

When it comes to this type of leadership there are a lot of challenges that are faced you are not only just a CEO you are the face of the company. Even though there is a board you have to report too, you are the one making majority of the decisions. Some other challenges might be trying to stay focus, maintaining a good reputation, going social by making sure everyone is in the loop, and knowing to embrace change. The easiest challenges to overcome would be going social because the way technology is set up, you can reach out to any and everyone. The most difficult one is trying to maintain a good reputation. When your so high in power it is hard to keep everyone on your side. You will make decisions that most people will not like, which would cost people to start talking against you. In the future I don’t plan on becoming a CEO of a company but you never know what life has in store for you.

To what extent does Cyrus become a different leader when he begins to consolidate his empire in Babylon?

In the eighth chapter of the eighth book of the Cyropaedia, we read of Persian decline after the death of Cyrus. Does this decline detract from Cyrus’ leadership because he was not successful in establishing a lasting empire of virtue; or does it highlight Cyrus’ leadership because no one after him could replicate his example?

The decline happened because the Persians were so use to Cyrus’s ruling. Without the two the people felt a lack of loyalty to the higher power. The citizens started to become reckless that broke every law that Cyrus and his son had created. Cyrus could only have a stable empire while he was alive, but he knew once he was gone there would be no one to take his place to make sure the empire was ran safely. The new ruler still holds Cyrus’s name but the citizens do not look up him like they did Cyrus. His success made a huge impact on the Persians, and to them no one would ever be able to take his place.
