WEEK 13

ONE MORE JOURNAL ENTRY TO GO!!!

Tuesday November 17, 2015

Today we had our last quiz for the semester, and I think I did a pretty decent job on this one. I think the score is gonna be the best one since the semester started :-)…..

In class we discussed:

  • Friendship
  • Admiration
  • Inspiration/relief
  • Hope of success
  • Cyrus the great’s bravery and fortune
  • Gratitude-philanthropia
  • Love of gain
Compare and contrast Alexander to Cyrus, especially in terms of their character. What stories of Alexander, or themes of his early life, remind you of stories we have read of Cyrus?

Both Cyrus and Alexander showed some of the same characteristics as a leader as far as drawing the people toward them. They were able to be great and memorable leaders because they were true to themselves first. They were well thought of because they were known by many.

Alexander’s strengths are being captivating and a person who was very genuine. He influenced a lot of people with his qualities as a leader and they respected him. Cyrus as a leader was more of someone who believed in bringing people together. His followers respected him and admired his morals. He was loyal, kind, and wanted to be the best kind of help to his people as possible. His thoughtfulness to his people showed how generous he was as a human being. He wanted to be an inspiration toward many.

Here is a job listing for the Dean of the college of arts and sciences at Clark University in Atlanta. Note that there is a long list of knowledge, skills, and abilities expected of the role. Do you think Alexander would make a good candidate? Why or why not? What other characters from the Life of Alexander might be more qualified? Would you yourself expect to be qualified for this role in 10–20 years?

Unfortunately, the job listing was removed but I think that Alexander the Great would have been a good candidate. Based on how he had this certain kind of charm about him, he would have stole the hearts of many women. He would be a great candidate because he has experience in leading many and he can be trusted. I would say I would probably be qualified for this role because of the line of work i want to go into which is working with the FBI. By then I will have experience in making high level decisions that could affect many and also being able to work with team members to make sure that everything is in decent order. Being a dean you are the advocate for not only the staff but also the students.
