Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life. — Lord Buddha

If you are interested even a little bit in spirituality or you read about spirituality, then getting a connection with your spirit and most importantly reaching enlightenment is just like a dream for you.

From the readings of many spiritual Gurus, I observed that whenever you ask for a definition from a Guru, they always tell you a ‘negative’ definition of it.

A negative definition tells you what something is not and hence helps you to find the answer to your question on your own as the best answer to your question can be answered by YOU only.

So, I am not going to tell you how to reach towards enlightenment instead, I am going to share my experience and my little-known knowledge in telling you about the barriers in reaching towards enlightenment so that you can know on your own about the steps in reaching towards enlightenment.

1. You think of becoming enlightened or you think you are enlightened

Your ego is one of the biggest barriers in getting a connection with your soul. All enlightened beings are famous and you always want to be famous like them and hence you always keep thinking and dreaming about achieving enlightenment.

2. You think yourself above other beings

Your ego doesn't let you experience the connection with the wonderful creations around you. You think yourself supreme to all other beings.

3. Past and Future

The Bad memories of the past and the Lovely hallucination of the future are one of the biggest barriers to achieving enlightenment. The more you think about the past and the future, the more you will deviate from your path of achieving enlightenment.

4. Denial of Reality

Reality includes the true-self of you, The environment, All living beings or everything which you know and everything that is happening around you. If you see a news of few animals dying and you don’t feel anything from them, then you are denying the reality.

5. Not satisfied with your current condition

Not being satisfied is again a big barrier in your path to enlightenment. If you are not satisfied, then you must be looking at some point or the other for the ‘seven deadly sins i.e Pride. Envy. Wrath, Gluttony, Lust. Sloth and Greed.’

6. Relationships

Sometimes referred as the hardest step towards enlightenment.’Some’ Relationships are a great barrier in your path of enlightenment. These ‘some’ relationships include family and friends.

I agree about the barriers, but how do I get rid of these?

Just meditate without any thought in your mind except this question and you will find your answer.

These barriers are just like locked doors and YOU are the one who owns the key to unlocking every single door.
