Book Review: The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman
The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman is a murder mystery which takes place in senior living community. It follows a group of 4 senior citizens in their lives and their effort to solve the mystery.
I always love to find an image to attach when writing these book reviews which encompass the general vibes or plot of the book. But The Thursday Murder Club’s concept was so different than anything I have seen before, I had to use DALL-E 2, an AI art generator, to make an image that represented the story. The reason I highlight this is because this was the main reason I enjoyed The Thursday Murder Club, it was a fun and personable take on the traditional murder mystery. Who would have thought that a book with an ensemble of 80-year olds could be so interesting?
Other than The Thursday Murder Club’s uniqueness, Richard Osman did great with the misdirects. I thought I had the mystery solved after every chapter, and then right when the next chapter started I was onto a new theory.
My only criticism parallels what I have said before in my review for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. You don’t get all the information you need and there are some unrealistic coincidences to drive the plot, so don’t expect to solve the mystery as you read. Just enjoy the journey, as a few pensioners (a new term for old people I learned from the book) try to solve the case.
My recommendation is to definitely give The Thursday Murder Club a chance. Hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I did. Happy Reading!
