Ryan Higa, with Youtube channel name Niga Higa, is currently ranked 14 in world rankings for highest number of Youtube subscribers. With a staggering amount of subscribers (19.5 million), he actually held the world rank 1 for a full 677 days during 2009–11.

If you actually go through his video playlist, you’ll see he makes silly and goofy videos, but in a wide range of styles and on various topics. From making lip syncing videos in his bedroom with his friend Sean in 2006, to being the owner of his own production house, here’s a look into his work.

  1. His video styles are varied

From self written sardonic raps and trailer parodies, to dance numbers and vlogs- Ryan Higa has done it all. If one week he’s released a video of a parodied dance number throwing light on the current American politics, the next week it’ll be a video of him and his friends sitting in the house playing ‘I dare you’.

2. His comedy is extreme

Him and his crew will do anything for a reaction- till whatever limit they see fit. A lot of episodes have them eating out of a toilet on a dare. Although that is not a prerogative for achieving Youtube success, its the attitude that counts. The attitude to do anything that your followers ask for. That sets a good subscriber record- for them to see their random stunts crazily performed for the world audience.

3. His random videos will also include issues

Even in his most random songs and raps, he will throw light on current issues and political scenarios. He will not always make things specific, but followers will get what he is referring to. Like in this video, he comically shows how someone can run for president wistfully and succeed.

4. His videos will feature other artists

Often he will invite other Youtube artists or Hollywood celebrities to be a part of his videos. Crossover videos will ensure a larger fan base viewing of his content and increase chances of hitting up more subs.

Check out this video of him working with Arden Cho.

5. Growing with time and trends

One thing he’s always done is stay up to date with technologies and current happenings. His videos always will feature current issues.

But not only that, he will always upgrade his editing software and camera equipment as he grows in fame and net worth. While on his previous videos you will see an amateur touch to the editing and recording, his recent videos have a more professional edge and he goes on upgrading.

Here’s an example of one his earliest videos:

You need to create videos that have people wanting more and more. People like to laugh, so that’s a start. People also like to be informed. Ryan Higa has managed to do both and only thence climbed the ladder to success.
