How not to win a hackathon and build a great product at the same time? (Part 5)
Finally, we came up with the name Beanie which we all clicked to right away, plus it seemed to be fitting for all our preferences.
As soon as we agreed on this name, I started to make sketches of a bean in a beanie hat. Crafting this little guy along with all the icons and animations completely filled my time for the rest of the hackathon but I enjoyed it a lot.
And this was the birth of:
Beanie, your friendly neighbourhood virtual assistant.
Beanie has solutions for everything that you’d normally need in a phone call! And always has a “one more thing”. He is fully independent of phone devices (may it be a smartphone or a classic mobile phone) and doesn’t require internet access at all.
The main functionalities were working flawlessly for now (thanks to Ádám and Balázs!):
- Handling calendar (connected to Google Calendar)
- Timer
- Location
- Date and time
- Currency exchange
- Taking notes (connected to Evernote)
- Weather
- Handling contacts
- Handling phone calls
- Voicemojis — a few words about it because this is the most fun part: we came up with the idea that you should be able to add voice effects in a conversation, like emojis or imagine pressing one of the Instant Buttons). You can activate it by saying a keyword two times, e.g. clap-clap, birthday-birthday, kiss-kiss, chicken-chicken, etc.)
It was great to see it work! And we all participated!
But we were not done yet!
We wanted to create not only a great product but visual material, too. The Nokia people told that a graphic interface was not needed, so we didn’t work on that. They made it clear that they didn’t really need a presentation either.
Panna, our marketing brain came up with the idea of making a commercial. She wrote the scripts, made the films, and finally, she managed to create the movie before the last minutes of the deadline on Sunday. Clap-clap!
We were more than satisfied with our achievements and we felt ready to take the glory for all our hard work…
