Introducing the Sheep Ritual
Greetings, Shadowy Coders! On a sacred day in December, a mass Ritual Sacrifice of Sheep will be performed to honor the Open-Source Gods.
We’re summoning the Sacred Army of Shadowy Coders for an initiation ritual. The invocation will yield access to Generation 1 of our NFT collection based on John Conway’s Game of Life.

What is SASC?
The Sacred Army of Shadowy Coders is a spiritual sister DAO of Gitcoin, born to fund public goods and open-source technologies in web3 and beyond through the power of NFT gaming.
The Generation 1 collection will include 2100 NFTs. Following the exclusive pre-sale, Ritual Sacrifice, and the subsequent public auction, the DAO will do a fair launch of its $FLOSS token and let everyone participate in decision-making to fulfil the DAO roadmap which includes:
- Funding of open-source grants through the SASC Grants program.
- Collaboration on subsequent NFT collections.
- Establishing working groups funded by the DAO and run by community members.
- Creation of PvP (Player vs Player) and P2E (Play to Earn) games based on Conway’s Game of Life where our NFTs represent in-game ownership.
How will the sacrifice work?
DeFi degens and shadowy coders alike are invited to join proofofsacrifice.com with the secret codes and claim their Sheep NFTs for the Sacrifice.
The secret codes will be shared on the SASC Discord over three Summonings exclusive to DAO members (details below). The secret codes can be used to purchase Sheep NFTs from proofofsacrifice.com for the Sacrifice.
On the Day of the Sacrifice, we will honour the Open Source gods and everyone with the Sheep NFT in their wallet can claim their share of the Generation 1 collection via a Merkle drop. The Generation 1 cards can be used to battle against each other in upcoming games based on John Conway’s Game of Life. Given the cards’ unique patterns, the community shall be open to participation and creating future games with independent developers and the DAO.
The Generation 1 collection will include 2100 NFTs; an initial 500 Sheep NFTs will be released via a staged rollout (three Summonings), exclusively for DAO members. The 500 Sheep NFTs, depending on their rarity, will yield a total of 900 Generation 1 cards on the day of the Ritual Sacrifice. The remaining 1200 cards will go public on OpenSea based on the English auction format.
More details on how the proceeds will be distributed to benefit Gitcoin & open-source development will be shared in the coming days.
How do I gather sheep?
Only upon being blessed by the Open Source Gods can you obtain access to gather your sheep at proofofsacrifice.com. The Gods do not favour anyone, but they will only bless a few. So you must pray at the altar to join the DAO.

1. Verification Ceremony
To demonstrate your commitment and join the DAO, you must complete the verification ceremony, a set of four tasks ordained by the Gods to make them consider you worthy of a blessing:
- Proceed to join the SASC Telegram Community: Once you’re in, write a prayer or a blessing, like ‘Grant me, O Lord! Thy holy sheep.’ or ‘May the Open-Source gods bring light to the world, I’m here for the sacrifice.’.
- Pray to your favourite Open-Source God on Twitter, with a picture and a caption: Remember to use your imagination and don’t forget to include the hashtags #sasc #proofofsacrifice #nft.
- Proceed to join the SASC Discord and Sign the Oath of Open-Source.
- Share your Telegram message and your Tweet on the Discord #verify channel to complete the ceremony.
Once you complete the ceremony, you will be welcomed to join the Sacred Army of Shadowy Coders and granted the role of ‘shadowy coder’ on Discord. Only the shadowy coders have access to the Summonings. Did we mention we’re a cult?
A secret code will be dropped on the #sheep channel on the day of each Summoning. Use the code to purchase your Sheep from proofofsacrifice.com before the allocation runs out.
You need the Sheep to participate in the Sacrifice, so keep your eyes peeled!

The last 50 Sheep will be given free to select early contributors and web3, NFT, and open-source OGs — we’ll call it Summoning 0.
