A List of Yiddish Transgender/Nonbinary Terms
Below is the start of a list of Yiddish vocabulary that aims toward gender-inclusivity in the Yiddish-speaking community, to empower trans and nonbinary Yiddish-speakers to be able to speak about their existence, and to make it easier for trans and nonbinary people to learn Yiddish. The first draft of this list was posted on The League for Yiddish’s “Words of the Week” in honor of International Trans Day of Visibility. This is a living document, a work in progress, and I hope to one day expand this project to include terms regarding sexuality and polyamory.
