Black and Abroad

Everyone always asks me how I travel so much and it’s quite simple. Some people spend their money on sneakers or clothes or whatever items they are currently obsessing over — I choose to spend my money on travel. I allow myself a budget of $400 a month to book at least one trip if I choose to. Anything over $400 needs to be planned in advanced.

How do I find out about these deals? I am in several travel group chats that consist of feeds from The Flight Deal. I also have several apps downloaded such as Hit List and Hopper. When a flight deal comes up, I either purchase it the day of or if I’m on the fence, I will put the deal on hold and do further research before I purchase. Yes, some airlines allow you to place flight reservations/fare deals on hold. The maximum amount of time that I’ve been able to place a flight on hold has been 7 days.

What have been some of my best flight deals? In December 2016, I went on a 5 day trip to Hong Kong Island for $394 round trip from Seattle, WA.

Victoria Peak, Hong Kong

I also traveled to Guatemala City, Guatemala in March 2016 for 4 days from Washington, DC for $125 round trip. Also, recently, I traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico for 5 days for $197 round trip from Seattle. I also look out for domestic flight deals as well.

Who do I travel with? I have been fortunate enough to have friends that also love to travel. I haven’t been forced to go anywhere alone but I have been blessed to travel with new friends and acquaintances which have enriched my adventures. However, my goal for 2017 is to book one solo trip abroad.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Hong Kong, China
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Cancun, Mexico
