Everyone involved in this discussion — and everyone on Earth, honestly — ought to read Labor and Monopoly Capital by Harry Braverman. The use of technology to reduce labor to capital producing cogs is not new and has been occurring for centuries. To claim that all an individual has to do is work harder is to ignore the nature of capitalism itself. And before you point it out, yes, I’m aware of the hypocrisy of linking to the book on Amazon. That’s half the point; this system is so ingrained in our culture that it’s not possible to live outside of it. Hence the many people upholding the status quo as “the only way things could possibly be.” The capitalist system and the way it uses labor is so entrenched that many people see it as inevitable as natural laws like gravity and magnetism. It’s not. Humans created it so humans can change it.
