Giving away my work for free just feels right. I feel proud when I make something and I want to share that enjoyment with others. At the same time I recognize the reality of a world that doesn’t appreciate this. We all have to eat, and we live within a society structured so that people have to convert their life energy into some output that provides for them to buy food. It’s unfortunate, but I haven’t figured out how to upend that system yet.

I suppose there is also a component of rebellion. It seems that every day someone finds a way to monetize something that previously had no economics attached to it. It’s disheartening. Giving something of value away for free is partly my way of sticking my finger in the eye of a creeping and vociferous capitalism that seeks to attach $ signs to everything.
