Finally Spring is here. The season and the animated short film too from the Blender Animation Studio :).

Spring is directed by Andy Goralczyk ^^. Great job Andy and team. Let us watch your creation now.

Andy appeared on Blender.Today and talked about his experience on creating Spring.

Open-Source

Spring is an open-source film. The production files used to make the film are made available to the public.

What are Open-source films?

You can browse Spring production blog, video logs and files on Blender Cloud. Some content from the movie is free to download by everyone.

Rest of the content is only available to Blender Cloud subscribers. I am a proud subscriber of Blender Cloud as it benefits both Blender and myself. Subscribers are contributing to the funds needed to make the short films and get access to weekly development updates and other tidbits (image files, Blender files) and at the end of production access to the production tree (all the data used to create the film).

In case you are scratching you head.. What is Blender?

Blender is the free and open source 3D creation suite. It supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline — modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, even video editing and game creation.

The production of Spring started with Blender 2.79 and very early into the production shifted to Blender 2.8, which is still in beta. Blender 2.8 was improved to support the needs of production.

I am looking forward to playing around with the production files and learn about the process and art of animation film making.
