When Will Windows 12 Be Released?

Microsoft plans to release Windows 12 in 2024. Major updates are typically released annually in the fall, so we expect Windows 12 to be released in fall 2024.

Windows 12 Codename: “Next Valley”

The operating system is codenamed “Next Valley,” following the codename “Sun Valley” for Windows 11.

What’s New in Windows 12?

Microsoft has unveiled a new desktop interface that might be a prototype for Windows 12, featuring a floating taskbar, a search box at the top of the screen, system icons in the top-right corner, and weather information in the top-left corner.

Will Windows 12 Be Free?

Windows 12 is expected to be a free download if your PC meets the requirements, similar to Windows 10 and Windows 11. However, purchasing a new PC might require buying a license, like Windows 11 Home which costs $139.99.

Hardware Requirements for Windows 12

If your PC can’t run Windows 11, it likely won’t be able to run Windows 12. Some Windows 11 PCs may also be incompatible with Windows 12 if hardware requirements are stricter.

Support for Windows 11

Windows 11 is expected to receive security updates until at least the end of 2028, based on Microsoft’s previous support patterns.

New Features for Windows 11

Microsoft will continue to release new features for Windows 11 until the launch of Windows 12. After that, new features for Windows 11 will likely decrease as focus shifts to Windows 12.

This is the latest information about Windows 12. We will continue to provide updates as Microsoft announces more details.
