Today, corporations the world over are transforming into digital enterprises. Any transformation, particularly the large and significant ones, have a tremendous impact on the people involved. The change management challenge is non-trivial and is a critical contributor to the success or failure of a transformation project.

Enterprise transformation change management is not just about managing human emotions and psyche and also not just about instituting a robust training program. The mindset change as well as the tools to manage and overcome the hurdles are both a part of good change management program.

So, for initiating and managing change in a major transition what are some of the resources that one can rely on? For starters, here is a not so exhaustive list of enterprise transformation change management resources.

Change Management Frameworks: There are several change management frameworks. While it is not an absolute necessity to use one, a framework offers a validated structure and a proven approach (hopefully!) to define and design an enterprise transformation change management program.

PROSCI offers a goal oriented change management framework called ADKAR. It is created by Jeff Hiatt, and ADKAR reflects the five outcomes an individual in a transformation situation must achieve for change to be successful: awareness, desire, knowledge, ability, reinforcement.

John Kotter, a renowned management guru, has developed a 8-step process for leading change. The eight steps are 1) Create a Sense of Urgency 2) Build a guiding coalition 3) Form a Strategic Vision and Initiatives 4) Enlist a Volunteer Army 5) Enable Action by Removing Barriers 6) Generate Short-term Wins 7) Sustain Acceleration and 8) Institute Change

Bridge’s Transition Model: The premise of the William Bridges model is based on an assumption that change is situational and happens without people transitioning properly. Transition is psychological and is a 3 phase process where people gradually accept the details of the new situation and the changes that come with it.
