About Project

What Is a Camping Digital Experience?

A Camping Digital Experience offers a cool twist on the traditional outdoor adventure by blending technology with nature.

It’s all about enjoying the great outdoors while still having the convenience of digital tools at your fingertips.

So, you get the best of both worlds, whether you’re a tech-savvy camper or just looking to add some digital flair to your wilderness escape. 🏕️📱

Project Duration

3 weeks.

Role

UX Designer, UX Researcher, Story board artist

Tools

Figma, Figjam, Canva, Procreate, Maps

Imagine- What if there’s a way to know a lot about a deserted place “from the comfort of your phone”?

The mission was to break down the challenge into manageable pieces and solve key issues.

Design Process

A Picture with 4 shapes describing the 4 phases of the double diamond method ( discover, define, develop, deliver )

Vision and goals:

The Vision: To digitalize the camping experience in Riyadh.

A picture stating our three goals

Research Methods

three rectangles with the research methods names written on it

First Things First, Screener Survey and Interviews

We shared a survey to reach people who camp in Riyadh and who are also interested in being interviewed,
The project started by reaching out to Riyadh campers interested in sharing their experiences.

The responses were great! a lot of users helped by sharing valuable insights and gave a fun amount of info!🧠

Second Thing Was, C &C Aka “Comparing”

Although comparing is the killer of joy and might sound as exciting as watching paint dry..

but here, it’s a really fun part, you get to know your audience,
competitors and environment.

And with Comparative research, a few more things got added
to the research!

Then a Friend was “Made”

After everything we did, it led us to our persona!
and our child is called ✨ Yasir

The ✨ Yasir ✨

Yasir had a love/hate relationship with camping because he’s passionate about it yet, struggled planning and going for it.

The problem

To share one of his stories, here’s a journey map! 🗺

Yasir’s journey map

and to help Yasir and after searching for a solution, All the information that was gathered got mixed and matched and it ended up with this:

The decision was to create an easy-to-use solution for Yasir, The solution will help him discover nearby camping sites with an interactive map that shows all the amenities and activities nearby, and has a guide to help him camp with a clear mind.

With this solution, Yasir can plan & share trips with his friends, relax and enjoy their camping trips.

Features Prioritization

Now, next, later graph

Considering all these features and Yasir’s needs, you’d get a better grasp on what would work best for Yasir..

A mobile app with offline features to help him navigate whenever he wants!

Then a Journey started and it was full of brainstorming, sketching and got some visual inspirations and nourishment if you’d call it that 🍔🥤

A few sketches and a mood board emerged..

After looking for inspiration and falling into an abyss full of sand and dunes “everything was like dust literally” 🏜

sketching things out would really help clear your mind for a bit.
And that’s where branding started!

Logo process

Started of with the logo and sketched a few ideas, some of mine were better lost in desert, but glad it got out of my head tbh..

After all that sketching and iterating, a logo stood the most.

And here, DUNE was born

To make the idea more understandable, a storyboard was created.

Story boarding

After All, an App Has to be Created

Sketching the screens to visualize the solution and take things to an advanced stage now looked like the best option.

Screen sketches

Next they got turned into wireframes and adjustments were made..

Wireframes

And finally the High fidelity design!

HI-FI screens

Clickable prototype

Prototype

To make everything consistent a design system/pattern was built to help have a seamless designing journey.

Design system snippits

The Best is yet to come! To ensure everything Yasir needs is provided, some usability testing was conducted and users tried the solution.

A few errs got discovered and instantly corrected to have more of a
user-friendly design and to satisfy most users if not all 🎉

Usability testing results

And this is how their problems got solved..

Errs and how they got fixed

Final notes are:

everything is not perfect, even perfection isn’t perfect because to some..
it just sounds boring.

The project will keep advancing and enhancing to reach a better polished result! 💎

what we already have in mind is:

  • Will add a budget managing feature for plans.
  • Making The radius larger and expand to other areas in Saudi Arabia.
  • Collaborate with organizing groups, camping stores and farms that can help people have an interesting camping experience.
  • Add a feature that shows the ground condition like ( moving sand, slippery or rocky )

Simply put, I’m crossing my fingers that this case study inspires you to explore the wonderful world of camping in Riyadh and enjoy the starry nights with a plate of tasty Kabsa. 🌟🍚
