The Importance of using Renewable energy in the efforts to curb climate change
When it comes to tackling climate change am sure you know we are on a time limit. We have about a decade left before the effects of climate change start to become irreversible, to prevent this from becoming a reality we need to transition to using sustainable energy sources and move away from fossil and traditional sources of energy. The best way to achieve this is starting to use renewable energy elements. Using energy from sources like the sun, wind, tides, waves and geothermal heat have proven to be more eco-friendly because there is zero greenhouse gas emissions and when used and they replenish themselves thus limiting degradation or depletion. When we all start using more environment friendly sources of energy we would be able to help fight the climate crisis as it bring us closer to fully implementing the Paris agreement which aims to stop the worlds average temperatures from raising to more than 2.0c or ideally 1.5c and stop global warming. When dealing with the climate change basically the less gases that are released into the atmosphere because of our activities the better.
What steps do we need to take in order to achieve a clean energy way of life?
Okay we have established that we need to make the move towards using more clean energy sources so it’s important to learn the different steps we need to take so as to do so and in which sectors we need to apply them. First of all I think we should acknowledge the fact that recently huge strides have been taken to achieve this as different countries around the world are trying to come up with ways to transition and start using clean energy and reduce their levels of carbon emissions. Well so far the steps that have been taken are things like:
a. Adhering to a global agreement
This is the aspect where the countries of the world come to an agreement to do what it takes to adopt the available renewable energy methods and this is where things like the Paris agreement and the Glasgow climate pact comes in handy because they are important as they outline in full detail the mission at hand. This types of agreements or pacts bring nations together and tell people exactly which rules they need to follow, what targets they need to hit and how much time they have to do so. In order to continue making the move towards clean energy however countries around the world should conduct full surveys and study themselves and learn more about the different sectors that make a high carbon emitting country and come up with specific changes they need to make and put in an agreement which in return they need to follow so as to bring on positive change . This is important as different countries do different activities that are harmful to the environment, not every nation do the same things which means they need to come up with their own set of rules and policies, we need more countries learning more about how they cause high levels of greenhouse gas emissions and how they can stop it. If more nations start fitting the rules to their specifications and follow them we would take a huge step in regards to trying to save our planet and curb the negative global warming effects.
b. focus on increasing climate finance and increase levels of educations
One of the ways we can make a transition into clean renewable energy is continuing to come up with new mechanisms and giving ourselves more options that help us leave fossil fuels behind. The better options we have when it comes to access to clean energy then we would have no reason to continue using energy sources that are harmful to the environment. We need to give more financial support to organizations or relevant authorities that focus on coming up with new machinery to help us come up with clean energy to use in our day to day lives. Modern new technology is an integral aspect in making access to clean energy for more people easier and appealing thus reducing the amount of harmful gases in the atmosphere.
Education on what we need to know and do is also super, super important this is because we would be able to fully understand the different responsibilities we have and be informed on the things we need to consider while conducting our various activities. Keeping the learning process rolling also helps us expand and come up with new innovative ways to utilize clean energy and not only keep up with the current ones but come with new ones for example through extensive research and learning more about accruing clean energy NASA has come up a new technology of solar powered thin-film devices that can convert the Co2 gas into a fuel and using it to provide power, this is a huge advantage as it shows we can turn carbon dioxide from a harmful greenhouse gas and into a usable fuel and reduce its levels in the atmosphere and with more research like this we would be able to find even more efficient ways of removing greenhouse gases form our atmosphere and prevent global warming . This shows the value of education in the fight against climate change it helps us to stay informed and you can never know what you can discover
c. following the relevant procedures is important
In order to be more efficient in the transition into using clean renewable energy throughout the world we need to follow different procedures in the implementation process. We need to do things like:
· We need to be monitoring energy-related policies and making sure they are being followed completely.
· Evaluating the actual impact committing to using clean energy has on both the public and private sector while also measuring how long the recovery process will take to move away from fossil fuels.
· Estimating the level of impact of using clean energy would bring when it comes to creating employment and how much it would help in building our economies.
· Projecting how frequently the effects on global Co2 emission treads using clean energy has so as to be able to follow the progress we are making and where we need to improve.
Challenges we face when chasing a transition towards using clean energy
In life when we embark on anything and try to accomplish something be it a task, project or anything else there is a high probability we would face some challenges. With that being said the process of transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy is no different, it has encountered different kinds of problems. They are problems like:
· Despite many pledges and efforts by governments to tackle the causes of global warming, Co2 emissions from our energy sources and industries have increased it by 60% since the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change was signed in 1992 and this has increased the intensity of the task at hand and has made us majorly dependent on coming up and implementing drastic measures to reduce our emissions so as to bring about big changes.
· The fight against climate change is facing the task of dealing bad behavioral attitude and practices. We have a major portion of people who don’t practice eco-friendly methods and a lot of climate change non-believers who do actions that harm the environment. To have a major progress in the transition to start using more renewable energy sources we need to be willing to accept the situation at hand and put our heats into it so we can give completely transitioning to using clean energy the best shot.
· One of the most recent challenges we have faced in achieving a net zero emissions society was that last year the global sales for SUV vehicles set another record thus setting back the efforts to reduce emissions by having more people driving more eco-friendly cars on the streets.
Ways in which we use renewable energy
When it comes to renewable energy we have been able to create different ways in which we can be able to use them so as to be able to get the maximum and sufficient energy levels out of them and when you see them you will immediately know that a renewable source of energy is being used in that area. They include things like:
- solar panels which harness solar energy from the sun and use it to power the house, building or grid it is attached to and in turn provides electricity to that specific structure.
2. wind mills use the speed of the winds around them to turn its propellers and provide energy enough to power the area it needs to.
3. tidal energy works about the same way as wind mills but instead of wind tidal turbines are placed in tidal streams and the fast moving water around them is able to turn them and they provide electricity light houses, facilities and houses etc.
4. hydroelectric power uses the tubes planted in rivers, dams to create water cycles that are able to turn turbines which in turn power generators that give us electricity. This is one of the most important sources of energy as water is a clean source of energy and thus helps us not pollute the environment by relying on power plants and by burning fossil fuels .
Need to know
Renewable energy sources are used to helps us get better electricity generation, bio gas helps us in conducting wastewater treatment, they also help in the heating or cooling of air and water, energy sources also they help us power our transportation mechanisms like cars, boats, planes etc. Apart from helping to conserve the planet renewable energy has also proven to be more cost effective as it’s cheaper to use it during the production process in our businesses than fossil fuels. Another thing we need to know is that to be on track in keeping our global temperature from raising from beyond 1.5c our greenhouse gas emissions must fall by 45% by the year 2030 and we need to achieve net zero status by the year 2050. Even though this mission is a big task and is facing different kinds of challenges as highlighted above there is still hope that it can be done and we need to work hard on it and we need to keep chasing it in order to save the earth.
