How to Engage Social Network Readers

Tweets that are unread, blogs unvisited, and Facebook content with no interaction. There are many facets to social media and knowing how to get more visitors is important. Social media has an effect on users who read through posts, tweets, and browse images on these sites. Depending on what they are seeing or reading defines if they will engage with the content. We need to capture the attention of readers and engage them in the content we’re presenting.
Capturing The Reader’s Attention
How do we capture our reader’s attention?
Scrolling through pages and pages of content can mean that the content provided is missed. The importance of capture the attention of reader’s is only the first part of engaging social media users. They see many different posts daily, but we need ours to stand out from the crowd. How can we capture their attention?
· Be Relatable — Users are more apt to read posts that have content that’s relatable. This can include brands, music, etc. that they enjoy. The information should provide meaning or questions.
· Be Insightful — We can share information, but if we share the same data it’s hard to capture a reader’s attention. We see advertisements that pop out with vague details like “Do this simple trick before bed to…” Being insightful means we are gaining the users attention with intriguing information that captures their attention (Vaughan, 2011).
· Use Reverse Psychology — Reader’s may see a title or topic that is the opposite of their feelings for the particular topic. For example, if we we’re posting information about being Vegan, we may use that information to capture a reader’s attention. How would they respond to a topic regarding eating meat?

· Use Concise Information — Users who read lengthy articles with minimal substance will generally ignore information.
· Break up the Monotony — Providing a way to scroll through the content without a continual flow of text. It’s great to break up the monotony of information and give a user a break. Using checklists and bullet points can help breakup information (Fidelman, 2013).
· Interaction — Social media users may read a post and ask a question. These are the individuals we want to interact with to get them on-board with the content. Responding to readers will let them know that they are being heard and cared for (Berghoff, 2016).
