The Pot Papers : The Future of SuperLearners

#8 Education “Under” Guided Meditation

With the connectivity and expansiveness of technology and the internet, the world is ever-increasing in communication. An ever-increasing amount of communication allows for the study of trends and new ways of thinking. Currently, meditation and mindfulness, are two popular words. The ramifications and consequences for one who pursues either though are life-lasting. Both promise peace, calmness, increased joy, gratitude, and abundance — traits desired and universal to all. It’s this component that makes seeking higher consciousness not just a passing trend, but rather a foundational new way of living.

Whether you refer to it as “guided mindfulness, meditation, or hypnosis”, the future is still the same- the fastest learners, aka “SuperLearners” will consciously learn while their brains operate in theta and delta wave states. Why? It’s in these two “brain wave states” that our “monkey-mind” becomes most quiet. When, be it through guided meditation, we can achieve a state of present awareness and elimination of all negative emotions, our minds are in their most creative and receptive states. This is also known as the “dream state”. However, to achieve this state while conscious, is to program and be aware of the subconscious mind — a major learning advantage. In the typical didactic classroom, attaining the attention of young minds is becoming an increasingly tougher challenge. How much time do you really think a teenager is capable of shutting out noises from the world and their own inner thoughts to learn new things? While the teenage brain is sponge-like, it often spends a great deal of time focuses and learning “unwanted” or harmful behaviors. For the students who are most competitive and want to get furthest ahead, they will spend their time studying while in a deep state of meditation or maybe listening to theta binaural beats.

People use guided meditation and hypnosis to program positive character attributes and to eliminate unwanted habits. With these two goals, both are attempting to unravel a concrete and existing trait, and flip that behavior or belief in the complete opposite direction. The reason why learning in this “altered-conscious” state is so powerful is we can choose to learn subjects for which we have a blank slate. This is a comparatively easy task as opposed to the former.

What would happen if some of the world’s greatest teachers, or those with positive global messages, started instructing students in a cadence that is in resonance with these deep brainwave states? This would be to achieve the desired “flow” or “superlearning” state.
