I am writing from a Christian perspective, so the basic truth is that God is sovereign over all events, over life and death. Most of which seems like a curse at the time, turns out to have been a blessing when we look back. “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:11. Here is my list of painful disciplines that will, with the proper attitude, yield peaceful fruit in time.

  1. Realization of the depths of our selfishness: This is…

THE WIDENING GAP BETWEEN THE 1% AND THE REST:

Between 1989 and 2019, the wealth of the top 1% climbed from 24% to 32% of total wealth in the United States, while that of the bottom 50% declined from 4% of total wealth to 2%. There are two predominant classes of theories on why this is: 1-The unfairness class of theories (systemic discrimination-corruption-cheating-theft); 2-The consequences of decisions class of theories. Which do YOU subscribe to? Let’s consider some bare facts.

One of the biggest differences between the wealthiest classes and everyone else is their ownership of financial assets–primarily stocks of publicly traded companies. The top 10% in terms of…

Melanin: Any of various black, dark brown, reddish-brown, or yellow pigments of animal or plant structures (such as skin or hair). Black: scientifically, the combination of equal amounts of all colors in the spectrum. White: Scientifically, the absence of color.

White Supremacist: A person who believes that the “white” race is inherently superior to other races and that “white” people should have control over people of other races. Caucasian: Of, constituting, or characteristic of a race of humankind native to Europe, North Africa, and southwest Asia and classified according to physical features — used especially in referring to persons of…

Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, un-spiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness…

My contrarian commentary is in bold. The following table levels are from the announcement, on Planned Infanticide Parenthood’s website, of the 2020 Roe v. Wade Luncheon, which celebrates the 47th anniversary of the Supreme Court finding a right of privacy, which immediately mutated to the right of infanticide, in the Constitution. The decision was better known as the Roe vs. Wade.

Roe v. Wade Visionary, celebrating the 47th anniversary of the Supreme Court Decision: $47,000. Gee, I would rather buy a Hummer H3, and drive it over the table! Legacy Sponsor: $30,000. Movement Maker: $15,000. Advocate: $3,000. Fierce Friend: $1500…

This morning I was reflecting on something the visiting nurse said yesterday. I pointed out that I had created vital documents, and taped copies of them on my refrigerator: Physicians Orders for Life Sustaining Treatments (POLST); durable power of attorney for healthcare; healthcare directive/living will; list of medications; and personal written instructions for hospice. The nurse said, “I’ve never seen anyone do that, they all think nothing will happen, even though if I am here, that means they are very sick.”

They all think nothing will happen? I guess they’ve — the nebulous “they” — have never been to war…

How you do anything is how you do everything!

So says my co-favorite fictional character Orphan X, AKA “The Nowhere Man”, personal chosen name Evan Smoak (Jack Reacher is my other). This commandment was taught to him by his mentor, Jack Johns. Why does he fascinate me? I don’t think there is any fictional character more unique, nor a fictional program more likely to be real — think Jason Bourne crossed with The Equalizer……on steroids, but more than that. The next two paragraphs, from the most recent Nowhere Man novel, Into The Fire, by Greg Hurwitz, open a small window into that world.

Within the top echelon of intel…

Don’t they read my blog? Obviously not. Or maybe I am just too low profile and insignificant to garner any notice. Okay, so adding Curmudgeon550.blog to SPLC’s “Hate-Watch” won’t up their already bounteous contributions, better known as extortions; I’m not sure where to draw that line. I read today that even Chick Fil-A “donated” to the SPLC, $2,500 in 2017 through their foundation. Yes, it’s true, because every charity must list contributions on their federal 990, but it was sort of a mistake. That donation was made by a volunteer advisory board member. That same year, the foundation also donated…

The Miami Dolphins played their first game on September 2, 1966. In 1970, they gave up a first-round draft pick to the Baltimore Colts for the rights to future Hall of Fame head coach, Don Shula. This was not the first time a team traded draft picks for a coach, though it was one of the most successful of those trades. In 2002, the Oakland Raiders parted with Jon Gruden for a first round draft pick and $8 million from Tampa Bay. Gruden’s TB Buccaneers promptly won the Super Bowl that year, beating…..the Raiders in the championship game. Ah well…

Madeleine Kearns wrote the sentence I am using for my title in her review of the new book by Douglas Murray, The Madness Of Crowds, for National Review. However, my favorite of the sentences of all she used was borrowed: “What is wrong with the world,” wrote G. K. Chesterton in a book by that name, “is that we do not ask what is right.” I love that. But I am taking issue with the title. I believe that the absurd — by which she means the “leftist and snowflake grievance sweepstakes” — can be very easily explained. …
